Creating of a Fleet Vehicle Preventative Maintenance Plan
Many businesses depend on having their vehicles on the road in order to get to appointments, deliver goods or services and for a variety of other reasons. It is important that those vehicles are dependable and will be able to make it to every single appointment necessary to keep your business at the top of its game. In order to keep your business running a fleet vehicle preventative maintenance and service plan should be put in place, no matter how many cars or trucks are included.
When establishing a fleet vehicle maintenance plan the first thing you need to do is to collect all the available service records for each vehicle. Then bring those to a mechanic and have each vehicle in your fleet thoroughly checked out to assess what sort of condition it is currently in. If you have had your vehicles for some time they may need some immediate attention, while others could be good to go as is. Your local auto mechanic that performs fleet services will be able to identify any current or upcoming issues. Make sure they check for any brake problems, transmission or engine issues or leaking fluids.
Once any identified problems are taken care of speak with the mechanic about creating a scheduled auto maintenance plan for your vehicles. The mechanic will likely have suggestions for each vehicle, depending on mileage and any issues it has already experienced, about how often you should bring it in for service. Preventative maintenance to fleet vehicles will often include oil changes, filter replacements, coolant flushes, transmission service and more.
It may be suggested that you bring a fleet vehicle in every 3 months or 3,000 miles, but be aware of what the manufacturer recommendations are, as they could differ. Once a plan is in place with the mechanic that you selected to maintain your fleet, create a driver communication plan. All drivers should be educated about what to look for in their vehicles to identify potential problems. Any issues should be immediately reported to the fleet manager who can then relay the issue to the mechanic in order to have it resolved.
