Must-Know Signs of a Suspension Problem
Suspension trouble can lead to bumpy and unsafe driving. At the first indication of a suspension issue, it'll be best to get to the shop so the mechanic can conduct an inspection. At The Car Doctor, our local mechanics can accurately identify your suspension trouble and then flawlessly fix it. Give us a call if you notice any of the following symptoms of suspension failure.
Indications of Suspension Trouble
Signs of suspension failure sometimes emerge during the braking process. A bad suspension can cause your vehicle to take longer to arrive at a full stop after you've begun braking. And if your suspension isn't working like it should, then it could feel like your car is nose-diving when you step on the brakes.
A highly recognizable sign of suspension trouble is that your car starts bouncing excessively whenever you hit rough patches of road. And if you hear clunking noises when driving over bumps, then you could be dealing with a damaged spring, which may also cause your car to sit lower in one corner when parked.
There are a few other indications of suspension failure to be mindful of. If it seems like your vehicle is drifting when you go around sharp turns, then a faulty suspension could be to blame. Also, with a bad suspension, tire tread can wear down unevenly, which can then lead to bald spots forming on tires. And if you take a look at your shocks and see that oil is leaking out onto them, then they'll likely need to be replaced.
Fails the Bounce Test
If it seems like your suspension might not be working properly, then you can do a simple test to get a better idea. First off, be sure that your vehicle is securely parked and not at any risk of rolling. Then go to the car's front end, press down hard on it, rock it twice, and release. After that, repeat this process on the vehicle's rear. Upon letting go, your car should only rock on its own three times or fewer. But if it rocks more than this, then a suspension problem could be present.
