What is a Fluid Flush?
It may be gasoline that you pump into your car week after week (or more in some cases), but your vehicle relies on a number of other fluids to get it to where it is going. From time to time these fluids need to be drained and refilled to ensure that they are clear of any contaminants that could cause problems inside the systems the operate in, this process is called a fluid flush. The following are the general fluid flushes required by most import and domestic cars and trucks as part of their regular auto maintenance regime.
The cooling system, which consists of the radiator, waterpump, thermostat and a number of other parts, utilizes a fluid called antifreeze, also commonly known as coolant. If a fluid flush is not completed it could result in major trouble for the cooling system, which means trouble for the engine, including overheating.
Brake Fluid Flush
While not necessary every time the brake pads are replaced, brake fluid may need to be flushed at certain mileage points. Completing brake fluid flushes also helps ensure that there is no air in the brake lines, which can cause delayed or failed braking.
Power Steering Flush
Power steering system flushes are needed because the fluid will become contaminated with particles after mile of hard use. These particles can become stuck in the power steering pump, which can hinder your ability to properly control the vehicle, and damage the pump itself.
The transmission requires routine maintenance much the same as the engine, but at a far less frequent interval. Transmission fluid acts as a lubricant for the inner-workings of the mechanism and if it becomes dirtied, of if there isn't enough of it, the transmission could suffer major operational trouble, or even fail completely. Transmission fluid services can help restore its capabilities.
The differential is basically the last stop for power created by the engine on its journey to the wheels. If the gears in the differential are gummed up or suffer from poor lubrication due to dirtied fluid you could run into a number of drivability problems.
